Over the last several days the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office has received reports of citizens receiving phone calls from law enforcement impersonators.
The impersonators are telling the citizens they are representatives of the Sheriff’s Office. The conversation is reference to there is alleged warrant for them or a family member. The citizens are then given instructions on getting a money order to them as soon as possible to keep the warrant from being served.
The sheriff’s office says this is a scam, and, under no circumstance, should anyone obtain a money order for anyone identifying themselves as law enforcement. The Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office says they will never ask for money or money orders over the phone in reference to a warrant, as any payments of funds for warrants or fines are handled through the court system.
An investigation is ongoing at this time. Anyone with information about who these impersonators might be…or anyone who is contacted by these impersonators…is asked to call the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office at 479-783-1051.
