An Ozark man was injured in a fall from a popular Ozark Mountains destination in south Newton County on Monday. The Newton County Sheriff’s Office says 22-year-old Brandon Jones was hiking near the “Glory Hole” waterfall near Edwards Junction and, according to a caller at around 1:30 Monday afternoon, had fallen around 20-30 feet from a bluff onto the rocks below.
Newton County Deputies, North Arkansas Regional Medical Center’s EMS, Newton County Search and Rescue, Tri-County Search and Rescue, U.S. Forest Service, and AirEvac Lifeteam personnel then responded to the scene.
Jones was semi-conscious, confused, and complaining of back and abdominal pain when rescue personnel arrived. Rescuers placed the man in a Stokes Basket, a special device used for securing patients during rescues, and transported him approximately a mile out of the woods to a waiting helicopter.
Jones was airlifted to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville with critical injuries, including a head injury.
